Why did I create The Courage Collective?
It's what I wished existed when I left.
After 18 years of service, I walked away feeling low, not proud. No formal acknowledgement. No real preparation. Just well-meaning advice about what job I "should" get based on my rank.
The one-size-fits-all resettlement didn't work for me—I was in an undermanned, operational unit with a toddler at home and my husband was deployed.
I couldn't focus on myself until it was too late. Years later, in the depths of postnatal depression, I realised no one had ever asked me about MY values or MY needs.
I'd given myself wholly in service and forgotten who I was.
